The place where every story about Liepāja begins! Rose Square has been the heart and main center of the city since the early 20th century. If a Liepāja local tells you, "Let's meet at the roses!", you can be sure they mean this magical and fragrant spot. Originally, this was the site of the new market square, but in 1910 the city administration decided to create an open public garden here with a grand rose bed at its center, giving the city a new, elegant charm.
The visual and emotional heart of the square is its large, round rose bed. During the summer season, hundreds of different rose varieties bloom and give off their fragrance – many of them gifts to the city over the years from its twin cities around the world.
