"Garāža 1965" – Rally History Museum in Liepāja

A unique journey through time: From today to the very beginnings

The concept of the exhibition is unusual – the visitor's journey starts with modern successes and gradually leads back into the past, revealing how the cars and motorsport culture itself have changed.

• The power of today's rally elite: As soon as you enter the exhibition, you are first greeted by the impressive "Škoda Fabia RS Rally2" race car. It is a true engineering masterpiece, in which Mārtiņš Sesks and Renārs Francis recently competed in the Scandinavian rally in Sweden, claiming a strong second place.
• Where it all began – the legendary year 1965: From the peaks of modern rallying, the exhibition takes you all the way back to the distant year 1965. This number in the exhibition's name was not chosen by chance – it was in this year that dairyman Mārtiņš Sesks Senior founded the motorsport section of the Liepāja dairy plant. This step laid the foundation for the city's rally traditions, and under his leadership the very first "Kurzeme" rally competitions were later organised.

The exhibition offers a unique opportunity to see for yourself how motorsport culture and technology developed on both sides of the Iron Curtain. The former net workshop now houses exhibits that will leave no car lover indifferent:

• Rally and sports cars: From the technical marvels of the Soviet era to the machines of Western rally legends and modern race cars. Precise scale models of rally cars from different eras are also on display.
• A special treasure – the "Lada VFTS": One of the most interesting and emotional objects in the exhibition is the legendary "Lada VFTS". It was with exactly such a car that Uldis Sesks once made his very first start in the "Kurzeme" rally.
• Historical testimonies: The cars' stories are richly complemented by authentic photographs, documents, racing memorabilia, historical gear and other rally-related items. Special attention is given to the "Kurzeme" rally, its participants and the people who shaped Liepāja's rally history.

"So that Liepāja has one more stopping point that inspires people to come here and return," explains Uldis Lībergs, head of the "Kursas kvartāls", regarding the goal of the exhibition.
