Liepāja Occupation Museum

The fate of nations, harrowing life stories and an untamed spirit of freedom – all this is preserved by the Liepāja Occupation Museum, which opened its doors in 2001 and is the only museum of its kind in Latvia outside the capital. Its mission is to preserve the region's collective historical memory and to explain the complex, tragic processes that affected Liepāja and its surroundings during the years of two totalitarian regimes (the USSR and Nazi Germany) from 1939 to 1991.
After a recent extensive renovation and the creation of a new exhibition (in collaboration with the leading design studio "H2E"), the museum has been transformed into a modern, interactive and visually powerful space. It helps every visitor not only to see the facts, but also to feel the harsh breath of history in a deeply personal way.
