17th–19th Century Interior Museum "Mrs. Hoijere's Guest House"

Mrs. Hoijere's Guest House is one of the oldest wooden residential buildings in Liepāja (built at the end of the 17th century), which after an extensive and meticulous restoration has been reborn as a refined interior museum. This place is legendary – once, during his European travels, even the Russian Tsar Peter I stayed here incognito.

The museum's concept is unique in that it allows you to experience two completely different eras within a single building, walking through historical interiors and sensing the daily rhythm of the townspeople of those times.

What to see and experience?

The museum is divided into two floors, each representing its own century:

• 1st floor: the atmosphere of the late 17th century and Hoijere's tavern Here you will find yourself in a typical guest house of a port town of that era. Historical rooms, the room where Peter I spent the night, and most importantly – an authentic and functioning tavern. Here traditional Courland dishes are prepared according to old recipes in clay pots, allowing you to literally taste history.

• 2nd floor: the apartment of the Stender family from the second half of the 19th century Ascending to the second floor, the wheel of time turns almost two hundred years forward. Here you are greeted by the home of a wealthy townsman – the city notary Christoph Wilhelm Stender – and his family. Exquisite wallpapers, Biedermeier and Historicist style furniture, elegant interior objects, and even a fashion salon of that time.

This is not an ordinary museum with exhibits behind glass – "Hoijere's House" is a living cultural space. Here the historical bread oven hearth is regularly lit, the aroma of freshly baked bread fills the air, candlelight glows, and visitors are welcomed by staff in historical costumes. The museum often hosts themed events, markets, and bread-baking master classes.
